How to make a discount code for your packs

A discount code is the way to let people try a pack for free or for less. You make it on the Promotions page, buyers type it at checkout, and the discount shows on their invoice. This page walks through making one, a free first month in particular, and what the buyer sees on each step.

Make the code

  1. Open Promotions in your dashboard. Only the shop owner can create or turn off codes.
  2. Code: 4 to 20 letters or digits, no spaces. Buyers type it exactly, so pick something you can say out loud, like HRFRIENDS.
  3. Discount type: Percent off or Dollars off, and the number. For a free first month, Percent off and 100.
  4. Duration: Once applies to the first invoice. Repeating applies for the number of months you enter. Forever is for life.
  5. Expires: the last day the code can be entered. It stops working at the end of that day, UTC (evening in the US). Leave it blank for no expiry. Max redemptions: how many buyers can use it. Leave it blank for unlimited.
  6. Restrict to pack: one pack, or leave it on all your packs.
  7. Press Create code. The page says "Code HRFRIENDS is live" and lists it with its redemptions.

A free first month

Percent off 100, duration Once. Repeating for 1 month, which the form suggests, does the same thing on a monthly plan. The buyer's first invoice is $0, and when the first month ends the plan renews at its normal price unless they cancel first. Set an expiry and a redemption limit if the code is for a particular group, so it does not keep working after the group has had its turn.

The code works on both plans. On Monthly a 100% off code set to Once makes the first month free. On Annual the same code covers the whole first year, because the year is one invoice. The pricing card opens on Annual when a pack has a yearly price, so decide which you mean to give and say so when you share the code.

Share it

Send the code with a link to your storefront or straight to the pack page. There is nothing to set up on the buyer's side: they enter the code on the payment page.

What your buyers go through

  1. They open the pack page and pick Monthly at the top of the pricing card.
  2. They press Start subscription on the tier they want, enter the email the subscription belongs to, and press Continue to checkout.
  3. On the payment page they press Add promotion code, enter the code, and the total drops to $0 for the first month. A card is still required. They tick the terms box and press Subscribe. The card is charged when the first month ends if they stay.
  4. After paying they land on a confirmation page. Its Connect your AI app button adds the pack in about a minute. How to add skills to Claude shows those steps.

What happens when the first month ends

A month after they subscribed, the plan renews at its normal price on the card they gave. A buyer who does not want that cancels before then from their organization page, under Manage billing. Access runs to the end of the paid period, and then the skills stop in every app.

Watching it work

Your Subscribers page lists every organization on a plan, and the Revenue page shows each sale, including the $0 ones, and what you kept. Each code's row on the Promotions page counts its redemptions. To stop a code, press Deactivate on its row. Buyers who already used it keep their discount for as long as it was set to run.

Getting paid for the ones who stay

Each renewal is paid to your Stripe account, less our 10% fee on the amount after the code: how to connect your Stripe account. Your packs stay listed on the marketplace with or without a code.
