How to connect your Stripe account to sell
You sell through your own Stripe account. Buyers pay you there, and Stripe pays out to your bank on your account's schedule. Your checklist has a step that connects the account. It is a short form, and a paid pack can't take a payment until it is done.
Before you start
Step 3 of the checklist unlocks after you accept the current seller terms. If the dashboard sent you to the checklist at sign-in, do step 1 first: how to accept the updated seller terms.
Connect the account
- Open the checklist at app.provenskills.ai/onboarding and find step 3, "Connect your Stripe account".
- Press Connect Stripe. You are on Stripe's form, which asks who you are, the business the money belongs to, and the bank account it should go to. It takes a few minutes.
- Finish the form. Stripe sends you back to the checklist, and the step reads "Your Stripe account is connected".
- If you stop halfway, come back to the same step. The button then says Continue Stripe onboarding and picks up where you left off.
Stripe sometimes asks for one more detail a day or two later, a document or a tax id. When it does, the step goes back to Continue Stripe onboarding until the detail is in.
Whose account is it?
Yours. You own it, you are the merchant, and you see every payment in your own Stripe dashboard. Stripe's Services Agreement is between you and Stripe. We create the products, prices, promotion codes and billing settings for your packs on your account, so you don't set those up by hand.
What a payment looks like
A buyer pays your account. We take 10% of each payment as our fee, before tax and after any discount code. Stripe's processing fee on the payment is yours. On a $300 a month tier with no tax, the buyer pays $300, our fee is $30, Stripe's fee is about $9 at its standard US card rate, and you keep about $261.
Refunds and disputes happen on your account. We don't return our fee when you refund a payment. The full text is in the seller terms.
Where to look afterward
Your Revenue page shows each sale, refund and dispute with our fee. The Open Stripe dashboard link at the top of that page takes you to Stripe, which is the record of what reached your bank, your payout schedule, and your tax settings. If you want Stripe to collect sales tax on your sales, set up Stripe Tax.
Two things to keep in mind
Manage your subscriptions in ProvenSkills, not in your Stripe dashboard. Don't create, extend, discount or move a buyer's subscription there, because a change made there can remove our fee. Change prices in ProvenSkills too, so your storefront and your account stay in step.
And before you disconnect your Stripe account from ProvenSkills, cancel the subscriptions for your packs on your account. Once you disconnect, we can no longer reach your account, and those subscriptions keep billing there until you cancel them.
What comes next
With Stripe connected, the rest of the checklist is your packs and your first release. If you are inviting people to try a pack, make a discount code and share it with your storefront link. Buyers find you on the marketplace as well.
