How to add skills to Claude with a connector
Adding a skill pack to Claude takes one link and an email code. No download, no files, nothing to type. This page walks through it for the web app, the desktop and phone apps, and the Team and Enterprise plans where an Owner has to add it first. It ends with what to do when a skill stops showing up.
What you need before you start
A pack from a seller on ProvenSkills, free or paid, claimed under the email you'll sign in with. And a Claude plan. Connectors are a feature of the paid plans, so Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise. If you haven't picked a pack yet, browse the skill packs or start with a free one.
Know which plan you're on. If you pay for Claude yourself, you're on Pro or Max and you can add the connector alone. If your company pays and someone else manages it, you're on Team or Enterprise, and the steps below have an extra person in them.
How do I add a skill pack to Claude Pro or Max?
- Open the seller's connect page. Every storefront has one, and the email you got after subscribing links to it.
- Pick "Claude Pro or Max" and press "Connect to Claude." The link opens claude.ai's add-connector dialog with the name and the address already filled in.
- Confirm. Claude sends you to a sign-in page that names the pack and the app you're connecting from.
- Type the email you used to sign up. You get a six-digit code, not a password. Enter it.
- Accept the seller's license once. You're back in Claude.
That's it. Open a new chat and the skills are there. The whole thing takes about two minutes, and most of that is waiting for the code to land.
Does it work in the Claude desktop and phone apps?
Yes, and you don't add it three times. Connectors are added in the browser, once. After that the desktop app and the phone apps use the same connection, because they all share your Claude account. So add it on the web first, then open the phone app and ask for the job. If the phone app doesn't show the skills right away, close it and open it again. It refreshes the list on launch.
How do I add skills on Claude Team or Enterprise?
On Team and Enterprise plans only a workspace Owner can add a connector. Members can't, no matter what link they follow. So the pack gets added twice: once by the Owner for the whole workspace, then once by each person who wants to use it.
If you're the Owner, pick "Claude Team or Enterprise" on the connect page and press "Open the Owner setup link." It opens the same add-connector form inside the admin console, filled in. Confirm it. No other settings are needed.
If you're not the Owner, the connect page has an email written for you to forward. It names the pack, explains that only an Owner can add it, gives the admin link, and says what happens next. Copy it, send it, and wait for the reply. In my experience this is the step that stalls, so send it the same day you subscribe.
Once the Owner has added it, each person on the team does this:
- In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
- Find the seller's name and choose Connect.
- Sign in with your work email. You get a code, not a password.
- Accept the license once. The skills are there from the next chat.
Why does it ask for a code instead of a password?
Because there's no password to have. The sign-in ties your Claude connection to the organization that holds the pack, and an email code is the least you can ask a person to do to prove they're the one on the subscription. It's also how access follows the subscription. When your organization's plan ends, the connection stops serving skills on the next use. When it's renewed, it starts again. Nothing to reinstall.
The sign-in page shows you what you're agreeing to: which app is connecting, which packs you'll receive, and the seller's license. That license acceptance is recorded once per person. If the seller publishes a new license version later, Claude asks you to accept it again the next time a skill runs.
How do I use the skills once they're connected?
Ask for the job in plain words. "New loss came in, here's the email." "Turn my inspection notes into a report." Claude reads the skill descriptions and picks the right one on its own. If it doesn't, name the skill or the seller: "use the Claims Desk skills for this." You can see the full list of what's connected under Customize, Connectors, next to the seller's name.
Every skill in a pack writes drafts. A person sends them. The connector can't read your chats or your files, can't see your other connectors, and can't change anything in your systems. If a skill reads your CRM, it does that through your own CRM connector, under your own login. What is an agent skill covers how Claude decides which skill to load and why.
What do I do when a skill stops firing?
First, disconnect and reconnect. Open Customize, Connectors, find the seller, disconnect, then connect again and sign in. That refreshes the sign-in, and it fixes the large majority of cases. Then check for one of these:
- The subscription lapsed. A card failed or someone cancelled. Claude returns a short message naming the pack and linking to your organization page, where you can see the status and fix billing in the seller's portal. Free access can be removed too, and the message says so.
- Your access was revoked. The admin on your organization page can remove a member's connection. Ask them. Once they add you back, reconnect from Customize.
- The pack changed shape. When a seller updates a skill you already have, you get the new version with nothing to do. If they add or remove a whole skill, Claude keeps its old list until you disconnect and reconnect once. The release note tells you when that's needed.
If none of that is it, the connector is fine and Claude didn't pick the skill. Name it in your request. If naming it works, the skill's description didn't match how you asked, and the seller would like to hear that.
What if the connect button does nothing?
Some browsers block the handoff. Under the button on every connect page there's an address you can copy. In Claude, open Customize, Connectors, choose "Add custom connector," paste that address as the URL, give it any name, and leave the other fields empty. Then sign in the same way. It's the same connection, added by hand.
Where to find packs
Every pack on ProvenSkills connects this way, and the free ones are the fastest way to see it working. Using Cursor instead of Claude? The steps are on how to add skills to Cursor.
